RAM Truck Maintenance Schedule

At certain mileage intervals, your truck will be due for service if you want to continue enjoying the durability and capability that it delivers in Danville. Keep in mind, there are some services and inspections that are required at every interval of the following RAM truck service schedule:

  • 8,000 Miles: Oil and filter change, a fluid check, and a RAM 1500/2500/3500 tire rotation.
  • 20,000 Miles: Inspect brakes, tie rods, and front suspension, and if needed, they should be adjusted and replaced.
  • 30,000 Miles: Small tasks like engine and cabin filter replacement, as well as larger jobs like CV/Universal joint inspection. Transfer case fluid, case, and axles inspected.
  • 60,000 Miles: Check transmission fluid, filters, engine coolant, and brake fluid. If needed, replace them.
  • 100,000 Miles: In addition to repeating many of the services above, you’ll also need to have your spark plugs and wires, and PVC joints inspected and replaced at this interval.
  • 120,000 Miles: 60,000-mile service should be repeated and, if you’re using your vehicle to tow or haul cargo in Reidsville, NC, the transfer case should be inspected and the fluid changed.
  • 150,000 Miles: Engine and cabin filters should be replaced, and the vehicle’s engine and cabin filters should be inspected and replaced if needed.

Your RAM truck’s oil change intervals may be more or less frequent depending on the type of oil used and your specific model.

RAM Truck Tire Maintenance

Part of your RAM maintenance includes truck tire care. This varies from RAM 1500 tire rotation (or of another RAM truck if you have another model) to tire tread depth inspection. Let’s get into more detail below!

Recommended Tire PSI

The RAM 1500 recommended tire PSI is 36. For RAM 2500, it will depend on your tire size. If you have LT245/70R17/E 119/116R tires, the recommended PSI is 75 for front tires and 80 for rear tires.

RAM 1500 & HD Tire Rotation

Generally, you should get your truck’s tires rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. But several factors can affect that frequency, such as what sort of tires you have, what your driving habits are like in Greensboro, NC, and more. When you switch between all-season and winter tires, the tire rotation frequency will likely not be the same.

How to Check Truck Tire Tread Depth

Most new tires have 10/32-inch or 11/32-inch tread depths, but some truck tires may have deeper tread depths. The U.S. Department of Transportation recommends replacing tires when they reach 2/32 inches, and many states legally require tires to be replaced at this depth. There are three ways to check tire tread depth:

Penny Test:

  1. Insert the penny with Lincoln head-first into a tire tread groove.
  2. Check if Lincoln’s head is covered and no longer visible between the grooves.
  3. If you can see all of Lincoln’s head, your tire treads are 2/32 inches deep or less and it’s time to replace them.

Tread Depth Gauge:

  1. Buy a tread depth gauge from an auto parts store.
  2. Insert the probe into the shallowest tread groove.
  3. Press the top bar of the gauge flat against the tire to see the tread wear rating.
  4. Do this for all four tires.

Tread Wear Bars:

  • Most tires have tread wear indicator bars built into them, and you can find them at the bottom of the tread grooves in multiple locations across the tires. If the bars are flush with the surrounding tire ribs, this means that the tread depth has reached 2/32 of an inch.
